"If God doesn't answer prayers, he can't exist" DYA?

i've read the mark scheme, but i cant really think of anything against the statement..

  1. People pray to God because they think he will listen and then grant what they wanted from the prayer. If they pray and God doesn't answer it then it means he can't exist.

Can you think of a counterargument?

  2. maybe you could say that God can't answer all prayers because some prayers may be more important then others eg. if someone prays for a football team to win a match and they loose. Could I use that?

  3. I don't think so, cause God is supposed to be omnipotent, omni benevolent and omniscient. If God is all of these three things he should be capable of answering all prayers.

I guess you could use the explanation that God works in mysterious ways. Since God is omnipotent, omniscient, he makes decisions for the greater good, we may not comprehend with his actions as we do not have enough wisdom. Since he is benevolent, we can be sure that he did it for our benefit. This shows that since God does not answer prayer does not mean he does not exist.

  4. Another reason could be because just because God doesn't seem to have prayer does not mean he hasn't. In certain situations God may have answered your prayer but then you just do not realize it or just simply take it for granted. For example you pray to win the football tournament. You lose the game you are currently playing and you think that God has not answered your prayer. But eventually (in the future) you win all the other games and won the world cup.

  5. By not answering the prayer immediately, God allowed you to learn from your mistake. When you lost the game, your team re-strategize and see what was not right. You learn from the mistake and win eventually. By giving the football players a moment to rethink their game play, it is answering their prayer, as the process is essential for them to win the world cup.

  6. Paul says (i dont have an account)
if God answered all our prayers then everyone will have exactly the same thing as we all wish to have, happiness, wealth and cure from any illness thus there wouldn't be a purpose in life. Furthermore, by not answering all our prayers, can be seen as a test of faith and whether we can still believe in God when not everyone has their prayers answered.

  7. Tim...you have included some good answers.

Kristian...you can use your point and then develop it into another one which states that God doesn't answer all prayers because some prayers may conflict with each other and so God decides which prayers to answer based on the good that comes out of them.

Tim...to develop your point use the word transcendent. This means God is beyond human understanding and so we are incapable of understanding his plan for us.

Paul...send me an email to my school address and I will sign you up as an author.

    Happy revising kids!
