Explain how seeing design in the world can lead to, or support, belief in God

i dunno how to expand on it to make it 8 marks? I explain what the design argument is and how it leads to believing in God but thats like only 1 point?

  1. I wasn't sure how to do this question either, but the 'Religion and Life' photocopy says:

'How the appearance of design in the world...' just means what things are there in the way the world/universe works that make people think it is designed by God.

    for example
An example of design in the world which leads to belief in God are the laws of science. The laws of science in the world are evidence of design in the universe, because everything that happens conforms to these laws, and so exhibits order. Because the laws of science work together in such an orderly (?) fashion, some would say that this is evidence of good design, and therefore a good designer - God.

  2. I think you have to show more examples of design? By "expanding", I think it means to include more examples and explain them.

William Paley’s teleological argument for the design of the world is based on the example of a watch. It could not have purely appeared in the world by chance; it must have had a powerful and intelligent designer who intricately designed every detail, to serve a specific purpose. This analogy applies to the Universe; because everything fits so well in the Universe, there must have been an ultimate designer - whom some people believe to be God.

Additionally, the anthropic principle describes a balance of conditions in the Universe, especially formed to suit human life. It is impossible to say that there was no designer, implying that God exists. Order seems to be within everything in nature in general, which are beneficial to us. Everything which seems simplistic has a deeper meaning behind it, and every individual feature found in nature was precisely constructed to match every other detail. This leads people to think that there is a purpose in life, and the search for this purpose leads to an intellectual and powerful designer, and this could only be achieved by an intellectual designer, which people believe to be God.

I'm not sure, but add this to Emily's point (laws of science) and it might just get you 8 marks.

  3. I got one of those questions marked, and I did something like that....first went into great depth about the watch argument, then I gave evidence (e.g the Big Bang that seems to show that the universe was designed in such a way that it is for human life), went into the laws of science and order, complexity and regularity, and then ended with something about the theory of evolution being evidence for the fact that god has imposed a mechanism of order and regularity on the world to allow us to survive (as argued by some Christians).

I got 8 marks for that question, so something like that should be fine...

  4. I will break it into four parts:
    -The complexity of the world
    -How everything fits together
-The time and nature of everything
-How everything seems to have a purpose
