Explain why some people believe in miracles?:

The only points I can think of are:
-Miracles happen to them personally. The first hand experience can make them believe in God.
-The bible teaches that miracles can happen.
-Jesus carried out some miracles himself.
-It defies the law of nature and is thought to be only done by God.

Are those points ok?

  1. Your points are correct ... you can always check the mark scheme or the "religion and life" photocopy we have ... (unless you've lost it) :)

    Be more specific though ...

    For example ...
Your point: "the Bible teaches that miracles can happen" and "Jesus carried out miracles Himself"
    - Jesus raised a dead girl back to life in Mark 5:35-42. This shows that God acted on the Earth, and the people who witnessed the girl being brought back to life (i.e. his father, some other officials) had direct contact wih God. This event broke all the laws of science/nature, and therefore led people to think that the only plausible explanation was God. The fact that this was recorded in the Bible (with other miracles) shows that it must have happened.

Another example is the resurrection of Jesus Himself. This is recorded in all four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, John, Luke), which emphasises that it DID happen and the people who Jesus appeared to in the following few days (His disciples, Mary Magdalene, and a few others?) had direct contact with God. No law of science or nature can explain how Jesus resurrected or where he resurrected to, or how he appeared to people after he was crucified and died. The fact that only God could have done this proves to many Christians that miracles do happen.

  2. Some more points are that:

Miracles are thought to be God's way of answering prayers.

Miracles are God's way of rewarding the faithful - see Job in the Old testament.

Miracles are recorded throughout history in every single one of the religious books.

People's lives have been changed so much by miracles that they can't have made it up - why would you change your life and religion for something that you made up as a hoax?
