'Near death experiences prove there is life after death.' Do you agree? 4 marks

  1. Some would argue that NDEs prove that there is life after death because there are many common features to all NDEs - going to heaven, meeting God and seeing dead relatives, to name a few. If these are common features to many people who experience NDEs after having died suggests that these people must be experiencing the same spiritual place before 'turning back' to life. If this is true, perhaps this spiritual place really does exist for those who have died. Therefore, NDEs do prove that there is life after death.

  2. Some, however, would argue that NDEs, like miracles, do not provide conclusive proof that there is life after death for a variety of reasons. One is that NDEs can be explained as the stimulation of certain parts of the brain, which generate similar features in different people (e.g. a bright light at the end of a tunnel). NDEs can only be attested to by the person who experiences them, meaning that with some external suggestion the NDE can seem to be something that it was not; this could also lead to hoaxes.
