  1. The British law on abortion comes from the Abortion Act 1967. This states that abortion may only take place before the 24th week of pregnancy. Two doctors must agree on the abortion, on the terms that the the unborn child has a good chance of being born severely handicapped, or that continuation of the pregnancy will cause harm (mental or physical) to the mother, especially if it puts her life in danger. Also, abortion may take place if keeping the child will harm the wellbeing of existing children in the family.
