Explain why prejudice and dsicrimination cause problems in a mmulti ethnic society

  1. I found this question hard too :/

One reason why prejudice and discrimination causes problems in a multi-ethnic society is because it could lead to civil conflict. The victims of discriminations would inevitably feel oppressed by a system that seems to work against them, which could lead to open anger. If discrimination continues, the oppressed groups may turn to violence to lash back at their oppressors. This only increases hatred in between the ethnic groups in a vicious cycle which could lead into open conflict between extremists of both sides. No society wants conflict, nor do they want death and destruction.

  3. I wasn't sure if my points were relevant either, but I would put:

    - A bit of prejudice and discrimination between a small group of people can quickly become widespread until it has 'infected' the whole society. For example, the hatred of the Jews throughout history would have began small-scale...
    - One problem is that it goes against the ideals of a multi-ethnic society if people aren't given equal opportunities.
    - If the authority (the government, the lawcourts, the police force) become prejudiced, justice may stop existing. ...But maybe that's the same as the point before
    - If a certain group of people are oppressed, they will not want to contribute their own knowledge and talents to society. This means that the society does not develop as quickly as other societies. In less developed countries, fast development is important

I'm not too sure either :S
