'Children don't need a mother and father who are married to each other'. Do you agree? 4 marks

  1. Most Christians would disagree, because they believe that sex is morally right only through marriage, and if a couple had sex and had children without being married, this destroys God's perfect plan for humans (Jeremiah 29:11). Additionally, since marriage is the proper place for procreation and Christian upbringing, Christians believe that families with cohabiting couples are less likely to have a loving relationship with each other, and/or stay faithful and have a lifelong commitment. This may potentially harm children as their parents may separate easily - because they are not in a stable relationship - and/or decrease their respect (or need?) for their parents and family life.

  2. In addition some people believe that children needs a mother and a father in order to have a good upbringing. Sometimes it is more difficult to discuss a certain topic with your mother than your father (and the other way round). Children needs both parents and their full support to feel protected and secure.

  3. *If your parents are not married to one another. They can break up easily. This can seperate the child from either one of the parent. The child may not be able to confide with their parent as they may not be there at the appropiate time.
