Describe TWO ways in which a sannyasi may show non-attachment

Help! I don't remember anything about non-attachment ... :(

  1. One way that a sannyasi shows non-attachment is he (or she?) has no fixed address and cuts off all ties with his family, who regard him as non-existent or dead. In this way, the sannyasi shows non-attachment to worldly matters and concerns (such as family) because he is no longer attached to physical places or people, and therefore able to concentrate on more spiritual matters in order to try and attain moksha.

  4. I'm not too sure...but if that was an explain question, I think I would split having no fixed address and cutting off family ties into two points.

Then maybe talk about giving up personal possessions such as removing the sacred thread, and the fact that reading the scriptures/going on pilgrimage means that a sannyasi searches for spiritual truth and in this way, is becoming detached from the earth.

...but that might not be relevant :/ I hope that helps?

  5. Okay, I think it makes a bit more sense now, thanks :)

Basically is it all about separation from the world (because it is polluted), meditation to find real truth, and therefore be closer to Brahman, so that s/he (well mostly he) can achieve moksha?
And talk all about the usual karma --> samsara --> moksha.

Thanks a lot, now I can think of the question more in the context of moksha - I can't get my head around the term "non-attachment" ... :(

  6. I'm probably not the best person to ask :) But since moksha is the ultimate goal of most Hindus (especially sannyasins as relating to the question)...I guess that it would relate to moksha.

Non-attachment...just a value like truth or ahimsa
